Apartments with soul

Sowa Apartments is a unique hotel located in the heart of Torun’s Old Town, in its southern frontage, at 4 Staromiejska Street. In a historic tenement house, which since 1389 used to be site of the Royal Pharmacy, the oldest pharmacy in Poland, a place which still remembers the times Teutonic Knights, today we host guests who value comfortable rest and convenient location.

The history of the tenement house

The history of the tenement house, which today accommodates Sowa Apartments, dates back to the 14th century. Originally, this space housed the Royal Pharmacy, previously known as the "Under the Eagle" Pharmacy.

In 1929, the building was entered into the register of objects of cultural heritage. As the pharmacy closed in 2011, the house underwent a thorough renovation. Under the watchful eye of the conservator, many unique elements have been preserved and restored, including a Gothic pillar made of the Scandinavian granite and murals on the ceilings. The 19th century pharmaceutical vessels and accessories were exposed.

For centuries, it enjoyed the privileges of the monarchs, becoming the oldest pharmacy in Toruń and the second oldest in the whole world.
